The Model Parliament Project is an educational concept that interweaves theoretical knowledge with role-playing activities. The inaugural edition of the program, titled "MODEL PARLIAMENT – TRAINING THE LEADERS OF TOMORROW," will engage approximately 200 young individuals from across Romania over a span of six months. The 200 participants who successfully complete this program will become part of a "Model Parliament (MP) Alumni Community" that will champion the shared Romanian-American values, transatlantic dialogue, and the significance of civic engagement in legislative and parliamentary processes. The project will be executed over a duration of six months by the grantee, New Data Academy (NDA), in collaboration with its principal project partner, the the EUcivitas Association..
Objective
Our short-term objective is to educate around 200 participants in fields such as history, politics, civic education, countering disinformation, misinformation, and fake news. We also aim to promote youth leadership through initiatives like the Model Parliament Alumni Community and the "MP Vote Ambassadors" project. These young participants will gain substantial theoretical insights into both American and Romanian political systems, along with techniques to identify misinformation and manipulation. The practical module, known as the "parliamentary simulation," will provide them with the opportunity to think, act, negotiate, and vote as elected lawmakers.
Our long-term objective is to popularize and implement the "Model Parliament (MP)" concept in as many schools, universities, student councils, and associations in Romania as possible. We strongly believe in shaping future generations of active, engaged, and informed citizens.
Goals
The overarching goal of the project is to promote civic education and media/digital literacy among Romanian youth. This is aimed at establishing a network of future young leaders who are actively engaged in advancing democracy, transatlantic partnership, upholding the rule of law, human rights, as well as principles of non-discrimination and tolerance.
Duration
The project will span six months, from February to July 2023, divided into two quarters:
Quarter 1: February - April 2023
Quarter 2: May - July 2023.
