OSINT Ukraine

In the age of rapid information and continuous news flow, manipulation and disinformation have become powerful tools in the arsenals of states and non-state actors. The war in Ukraine was no exception, accompanied by intense propaganda and sustained disinformation, especially from Russia. In this atmosphere of confusion, the project OSINT Ukraine is an initiative of <Digital Forensic Team> aimed at revealing the truth, combating misinformation and providing a clear perspective on events in Ukraine.

What is OSINT?

OSINT stands for "Open Source Intelligence" and refers to the collection, analysis and interpretation of publicly available information to extract relevant knowledge. In the context of the OSINT Ukraine project, this means carefully monitoring and gathering information from open sources, such as media sources, social networks, government websites and international organisations, to identify and dismantle Russian disinformation and propaganda related to the war in Ukraine.

OSINT Ukraine project goal

The main goal of the OSINT Ukraine project is to provide an objective and fact-based perspective on events in Ukraine, focusing on effectively countering Russian disinformation narratives. This project is an independent initiative of experts and professional students dedicated to the efforts to verify the veracity of information and expose propaganda narratives.

Methodology

The OSINT Ukraine project uses a multidisciplinary approach to achieve credible and robust results. Key methods include:

Open source analysis: the project team collects information from a wide range of sources, including international media, social media posts, images and videos available online.

Verification of the veracity of the facts: the information collected is checked and compared with multiple sources to confirm its authenticity and accuracy.

Imagery and multimedia analysis: techniques and tools are used to analyse images and videos to detect any manipulation or editing.

Collaboration and networks: collaborations are established with similar organisations, independent experts and journalists in order to gain a more comprehensive perspective and strengthen the monitoring results.

In an era when misinformation spreads easily and quickly, the project OSINT Ukraine is a robust response to Russian propaganda and revealing the real facts about the war in Ukraine.

With its rigorous approach and determination to reveal the truth, this project is an important step towards a better understanding of international events and the effective countering of wartime disinformation.
